Dri Flex - Overview
Dri Flex ties were developed as a result of the identified need to drill smaller holes in the masonry to control the amount of spalling when drilling the near leaf. A 10 - 12mm hole drilled through a brick using a hammer drill can result in half or more of the brick spalling away. This material can block cavities and cause bridging and moisture transfer, and leave a much reduced fixing area for the near leaf connection.
Drilling for the Dri Flex tie is performed using a rotary percussion drill, which dramatically reduces the spalling, with hole sizes reduced to 5 - 7mm diameter. The result is a much neater finish and a more secure fixing.
Pre-installation testing should be performed to the requirements of BRE Digest 401 and Target is able to offer technical help and advice.
